Job Searching Break

So, I had one other blog entry up and ready to go, and then I moved home and a week later I am finally updating again. I have to remember than this shouldn't happen again.

I had a great weekend, friends, family, fun, and waaaayyyy too much food. (But hey, it happens.) I took my younger cousins to Toy Story 3, and it was AMAZING. I couldn't imagine a better closer for that movie series. Of course they did leave it open for a fourth one, but don't worry they'll probably let it sit another 10 years and come up with an unnecessary sequel. Or someone will think they need to remake the first one. (Please don't.)

Yesterday I did a little networking and am hopeful that something may come of that.

That brings us to today, I made my brother come to the library with me and together we are looking for jobs. I keep getting overwhelmed because I can hardly remember what I have applied for, but this time around I am also excited to actually be getting replies back from people. Nothing too promising, but hey at least I can look forward to possibly getting interviews set up in the next couple weeks.

Ok, back to work.....

designing for the family reunion

This summer, next month actually, I will heading to Norway for a family reunion. I am so excited to see family members I haven’t seen in a couple years and also some new ones I have never met. We are also going to be in Bergen which I have never been to so I am way excited for that too. I have really only been to Oslo and where ever my cousins’ cabin is up in the mountains.

The Kaardal-Olson family reunion tradition changes countries every 4 years from Norway to USA to Canada. The short version of a long story of how the family got separated is this: My great grandparents were missionaries from Norway in Africa. When they had children they were sent to live with other family members. My grandpa was sent to live in Canada, while his sister Alice lived with relatives in Norway (They didn’t even meet until he was 21 and she was 16!!). My grandpa ventured into the US along the way making us the American ambassadors.

At these reunions, because there are way too many of us, we wear pins that say which branch of the family we belong to. Being the graphic designer in the family, I was conveniently called in to work on the project. It needed Norwegian and American flags, to say which branch of the family we were from and at the last minute a map of Africa needed to be included. I could kick myself for not including the year, but I can’t do much about

it now as the pins have been made already. Here is the design I came up with, I was so proud of those flags… you have no idea.

Hello! This is the first of (what should be) many blog entries. I used to have a blog… but it is now filled with what can only be described as college angst. I can remember the days when my biggest troubles were when I had to be in class by 10:30AM or how mad I was at a friend for something I forget about a week later and of course boys…and how stupid they are. Oh, how the times have changed. Now, just exchange work for class, best friends and good times for petty drama you’ll get a better picture of just how much things have changed. (Boys are still stupid…sometimes.)

College is over and it's time to enter the real world. It's a new era with new adventures.

Anyways, for those of you who know me and want to know more or even those that don’t know me and still want to know more, here is a little about myself:

I grew up in the small town of Redwood Falls, MN. I played a lot of sports and was always doing something creative in my free time- painting, scrapbooking, drawing, making jewelry and whatever else came my way. From high school I went to college and played volleyball for a year at SMSU before transferring to UMD where I graduated with a degree in Graphic Design and minors in Photography and Foreign Studies. I also studied abroad in England for a year, it was an amazing experience. Since graduating I have been trying to get some real world experience in graphic design, traveling across the country and deciding what it is I want to do with my life. I was out in California and then Boston living for a few months and now I am headed back to Minnesota ready to get serious about finding my career. It’s out there I just need to find it.

I may also take note from the movie Julie & Julia, and try to cook as many new recipes as I can, learn to sew as many projects as I can, finally scrapbook my England trip, continue down my list of movies that I must see, cross off more books from my must read list, and learn how to finish a knitting project in a few days rather than months.

So, be sure to check back and find out what shenanigans I may have gotten myself into and see some things that keep me entertained.
